Question: Tell me about one of the new Strike King baits you really like.

Wurm: One I really like and throw a lot is the Strike King Series 4S crankbait. It is a bait, which consistently day-in and day-out will produce for you, in and around lay-downs, standing timber and boat docks. It is a large-bodied bait that comes through the water with a wide wobble. It reflects off of structure really well. It has a short square build, so it runs about 4 or 5 feet deep at the max. So don't be afraid to throw this thing around cover. That is where it works the best.

Question: Give me a situation where you like to fish it.

Wurm: I fish this bait in lay-downs -- dead trees lying in the water. When you’re going down a bank with lay-downs, older lay-downs with nice trunks and not too many little limbs, throw this Series 4S crankbait right down the trunk. It will bounce off the trunk, hit a limb, bounce over it and just keep right on trucking. It has a wide wobble to it. The Series 4S has an attraction to the fish because it’s a bait in a situation the fish aren’t accustomed to seeing. Fish normally see spinner baits, worms, or jigs. Very seldom do they see a crankbait in lay-downs, standing timber or around boat docks. This tactic will definitely work for you.

Strike King LureQuestion: On what pound-test line are you throwing it?

Wurm: Anywhere from 12- to 20-pound test. If you’re catching good-sized fish and the cover is fairly thick, I would throw up to 20-pound-test because you can still cast it. Its size enables you to cast fairly easily. You’re not making long casts, like across-the-pocket casts trying to get it to go deeper. You’re going down the bank, close into cover throwing nice target casts where you are hitting a spot of open water and getting the crankbait to come over and around the cover at which you are throwing.
